Enrich 4 - Persuasive Strategies

Hi to all my High Intermediate / Enrich 4 Students. As I informed you in class today, I will be postings some tips for your writing in this blog...so here it is. I hope these strategies will help you when you write a Persuasive Essay [or presentation].

Persuasive Strategy Definitions
:

1. Claim - your main point ---> state your argument

2. Big Names - experts and important people that support your side of the argument ---> mentioning their names will make your argument more convincing

3. Logos - using logic, numbers, facts, and data to support your argument ---> facts and numbers and information can be very convincing

4. Pathos - appealing to your audience’s emotions ---> getting people to feel happy, sad or angry can help your argument

5. Ethos - making yourself seem trustworthy and believable ---> if people believe and trust you, you are more likely to persuade them

6. Kairos - building a sense of urgency for your cause ---> try to convince your audience that this issue is so important they must act now

7. Research - using studies and information to make your argument seem more convincing; you can use words, graphs, tables, illustrations ---> using reliable research can help your argument sound convincing
